Polka Dot Begonia A4 Screen Print
The Polka Dot Begonia, with its official name Begonia Maculata, is such a striking plant with its white-spotted leaves and their red underside, here at Abi Prints, we have tried to capture this in the A4 reduction screenprint. This print is a limited run of 9 with 8 available today, all signed, numbered, stamped, and printed onto recycled card.
This print was produced from six different stencils, each cut by hand and printed using a silk screen. This type of print is called a reduction screen print, meaning the background was the first layer, and each of the subsequent layers went over the top of the layer before it to reveal the final design. Each of the background was mono-screenprinted a technique in which I paint blobs of colour directly onto the screen and then pull through. This means each print has its own unique background layer and why each print is listed individually so you can pick your favourite.
"The polka-dot begonia is such an interesting plant. I knew as soon as I saw them, one, I needed to own one and two, I wanted to print one. This print was one of my more challenging ideas, due to the amount of layers and intricacies of all the dots, which I cut one at a time by hand to create the stencils. I am really proud of how this design turned out, and love how each print has its own original background, making each one even more special."
